Infection Control

Healthcare has been facing an ever growing problem in the form of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI). The Centers for Disease Control estimates that there are over 1.7 million infections contracted annually which result in over 99,000 deaths with a $42,000 average cost of treatment.

It is estimated that $45 billion is added to the annual healthcare costs to treat HAIs, with an estimated 4.5 infections out of every 100 hospital admissions, extending average length of stay by 177%.

TCS is a master distributor for Arcalux Lighting, AirGuide Manufacturing and American Ultraviolet providing us a suite of room-level Infection Control products that employs the CDC's four hierarchies of control to eliminate pathogens at the source. These include the Arcalux Health Risk Management System, AirGuide's Stainless Steel Critical Environment Controlled Air and Laminar Flow product lines along with the American Ultraviolet UVC solutions to protect your patients and healthcare personnel.

The Arcalux Health Risk Management System
When eliminating pathogens at the source and reducing HAI risks, there are four common lines of defense:

Filtration – Filter is deployed to eliminate hazardous agents at the source of exposure.

Pressure – Using differential pressure, directional airflow is created to isolate contaminants.

Purification – Using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI).

Dilution – Deploy effective air change patterns in the room.

The Arcalux Health Risk Management System uses differential pressure and directional airflow to isolate contaminants, employing filtration and Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) while providing adequate per hour air changes on a local basis. This integrated room-level purification system eliminates pathogens at the source, consistent with the CDC's recommended hierarchies of controls.

This cost effective system is installed in the existing electrical infrastructure with no structural, HVAC or duct modifications. The patented and award winning SmartFixture is utilized as the platform for this standalone and easy to install delivery system. Disguised as an energy efficient light fixture, the system works unobtrusively to irradiate with optimal zonal ventilation, quietly re-circulating air at every corner of the room while removing 99% of viruses, fungi, and bacteria.

TCS is a master distributor for the Arcalux Health Risk Management System. This Standalone System provides protection from Hospital Acquired Infections that your hospital needs and your patients and staff deserve.

"The UVC Operating Room Equipment Package"

Ultraviolet germicidal packages from American Ultraviolet reduce the threat of contamination of the operative wound and post-operative deep wound infections that can occur during surgical procedures, particularly when refined-clean wounds are involved.

Studies as far back as 1937 (Duke University, Durham, North Carolina), and as recent as 2007 (Center for Hip and Knee Surgery, St. Francis Hospital-Mooresville, Mooresville, Indiana) report the effectiveness of ultraviolet light in reducing overall infection rates. In the Duke study, during the first five years of use, overall infection rates on clean cases dropped from 10% to 0.24%, on the orthopedic service, it dropped from 16.5% to 0.75%. For the next 26 years, the overall infection rate was 0.34%.

The St. Francis study (July 1986 to July 2005) shows the infection rate in the operating room decreased significantly, from 1.77% to 0.57%, in association with the use of ultraviolet lighting, even with the elimination of laminar airflow.

For more than 70 years, UVC has been used to reduce or eliminate DNA-based contaminants and provide operating room personnel and patients with a healthier environment.
